Mountain courses are designed for anyone who feels professional input will enhance their own mountaineering skills. A wide range of skills can be covered including navigation, rope work, scrambling techniques and route finding to name a few, Working in the higher mountains of Snowdonia, mountain courses are run both at weekends and midweek and help you develop the skills and judgement to explore the UK mountains in all weathers.

What we cover

Mountain courses are very practical with lots of ‘hands-on’ learning. Full days in the mountains both on and off the beaten tracks. During the course of the mountain days we will look at the following skills

  • Mountain navigation
  • Scrambling and ropework
  • Mountain clothing and equipment
  • Mountain weather
  • Route finding through difficult ground
  • Planning a mountain day
  • Fauna and flora
  • Local history
  • What to do when things go wrong

Bad weather is ideal for learning to navigate and these courses will adapt to make best use of the prevailing weather conditions.

What Does It Cost

The cost of a mountain course is easily calculated by adding the appropriate daily guide rate (based on group size) and accommodation rate per day and per night for the totals required.

  • Guide Rate £195.00 per day (1 – 3 persons)
  • Guide Rate £245.00 per day (4 – 6 persons)
  • Accommodation £35.00 per person per night (based on 2 persons sharing)

Guide to client ratio

  • Scrambling 1:3
  • Navigation and hill walking 1:6

All specialist equipment such as ropes, harness, helmets and rack are included in the price. Clients on these courses tend to have some personal equipment such as mountain boots. We are able to offer outer shell and rucksacks as well as a small selection of other items should you forget something.
